So if you know Keith and I at all, you know that we love watching the Food Network. Hands down, our favorite show is
Diners, Drive-In's, and Dives (affectionately know as
Triple D!) We have enjoyed many unique and delicious meal experiences by seeking out the joints Guy Fieri frequents on that show. (
mmmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about them!!) Anyway, a few weeks ago we had the Food Network on and another show grabbed our attention when they featured a small restaurant in Manchester, CT.
The show is called
The Best Think I Ever Ate. Each episode there is a theme and they interview famous chefs and Food Network hosts to inquire what is the most delectable thing they ever ate according to the designated theme. When Keith and I were watching, it happened to be
The Best Cheesy Thing I Ever Ate. Most of the chefs were saying things like fondue at some uppity bistro in New York, or a cheese souffle at a sunny cafe in Miami. But, one of them took the lower road and raved about a small place called the
Shady Glen Dairy in his hometown where they've been making unforgettable cheeseburgers since he was a boy. Every time he returns, he said he has to swing by for one of the burgers. The secret is in the cheese, not just the taste, but the shape and the crispiness. Wait...crispy cheese? Yep. Take a look...

Now, close your mouth and wipe the drool off your chin. Look at that cheese!!! All molded in to crispy, crazy perfection! Keith and I lifted up the top bun, folded the cheese wings on top of the burger, and put the bun back on. They don't serve it with any toppings, just the burger. The atmosphere was
Back to the Future-like, a total blast from the past. All the guys were dressed in white uniforms with the typical white paper burger cap. The waitresses were wearing green dresses with white collars, straight out of a 1950s diner. The soda and ice cream bar looked original. We ordered Isaac the most buttery, oozy-gooey grilled cheese ever which he ate in its entirety. Lunch was topped off with small sundaes made with their homemade ice cream. We rolled out, fat and happy. Now that what I'm talkin' about!!

It was a great family experience. Not healthy, but great!!!

Oh my gosh, John and I watched that episode a few weeks ago and I've thought about that stinkin' cheeseburger a few times since! In the words of Rachael Ray - YUMMO!!

Way to go! I think "Cheezy" is one of the 2 "new" food groups (other than chocolate) designated by the Sweet Potato Queens in their famous cookbook... in addition to sweet, sour, salty, & bitter. we're in the home stretch for Mardi Gras, making the Childrens Parade today... the only time good weather & parade time coincide. Had a blast! Laissez les bons temps roules!! love Mia & PapaDoc
