roly poly

Yesterday morning, Isaac and I were doing our yoga/pilates workout DVD. I was laying on my stomach facing him, and he was on his tummy facing me. He started to lean, so I readjusted his arms to help him be more stable. He began to lean again, and before I could help him again, he rolled over onto his back! What? I didn't realize that's what he was trying to do. I called Keith and put Isaac back on his tummy. Part of me was thinking it was a one time fluke and that Keith would not get to see. Yet, Isaac did not disappoint. Before long, he was on his back again. We were both laughing. Keith grabbed the video camara and Isaac rolled 2 more times on camara. I can't believe it. We were so proud. Beaming as if he had just completed the most difficult vault in Olympic history. After his performance, we rewarded him with some baby massage and he fell fast asleep.

Something else I've been meaning to post for a while...is a picture of a gift we received from one of Keith's classmates, Julie. She painted letters of Isaac's name to hang in his room. Cleverly, she looked up his bedding online and chose colors that match perfectly. She even tied the ribbons on so all we had to do was hang them on the wall. The first time we put him in his crib, he noticed them instantly. He stares at them all the time. Anything with stripes really holds his attention. Way to go Julie!! Isaac loves them, and so do we!

So, Grandma Pat is coming to visit us again this week. Then, in 2 weeks, Aunt Lolo (my sister, Lauren) and Wendy (my cousin) are coming to play with Isaac as well. We are hoping that Mia and Auntie Ains will come again sometime in May when Keith has a nice break from classes. Honestly, what a blessing that even though we live so far from family, they still make the effort to come visit. Sending everyone hugs and slimey kisses (those are from Isaac!).

workin' mama

three months ago...i was not a mom. i had no idea how my life would change and the amazing, pure joy Isaac would bring into my world. Now, I'm not only a mom...I'm a working mom. I don't seem together enough to be a working mom. I don't look like a working mom. I don't feel like a working mom. Identity crisis!! Ever since I went back to work last week, things have been pretty crazy. First of all, I'm totally having separation anxiety, whereas Isaac's been fine. I want to think he pines for me all day, but I know the truth. He is very happy and content with his new friends and my milk in a bottle. I'm proud he's made such a smooth transition. Now it's my turn. I admit, it's been pretty stressful so far. I've always been one to need a lot of sleep in order to function well and not let things get to me. So, with the lack of sleep plus a combination of returning to work, speaking Spanish all day causing severe brain fry, being on my feet all day long, washing 3 times as many bottles a day as before, plus dinners, dishes, laundry, cleaning house, errands, exercise attempts, and thank you notes...I had a slight (extreme) breakdown last night. Keith of course took it in stride, at least it looked like he did. Although, he did tell me this morning he wanted to drink a Scotch. (he assures me i had nothing to do with that desire. thanks honey, but i'm not sure i believe you.) the most difficult part about this new chapter in my life is saying goodbye to my little cutie every morning. I mean, look at how adorable he is!! I suppose we will all adjust soon enough.
Okay...here is the 3 month birthday video.

sweet home louisiana

We recently ventured to Louisiana to introduce Isaac to Keith's family and friends. Doesn't he look just like Cimba in The Lion King when he was held up for all to see on the cliff's edge? Thus was Isaac's visit...he was treated like a prince, showered with love and affection. The weather was GORGEOUS and Isaac loved being outside with the sun and warm air on his skin. We had to take two planes to get there, and two planes to return. I was so worried about how Isaac would do on the flights. He actually did great. He either ate, slept, or was alert looking around and playing. He really only fussed once for about 3 minutes total and the man sitting in front of us turned around about fourteen times during that short interval to make sure I knew he did not like it. GEEZE!!! I mean, what about the other 122 minutes of the flight that Isaac didn't make a peep? I really wanted to say a thing or two to that man...I held my tongue. Here's a few pics of his first airport and plane experience.

Keith's mom hosted a Sip-n-See for people to come and meet Isaac in person. I think half the town came over. Isaac was adored and goochey-gooed over for 3 hours straight. I think it was sensory overload for him, because he was not himself for the rest of the day. Poor thing was a little overwhelmed. Yet, he practiced his masterful flirting skills like a seasoned pro...you know, half smiles just enough to show his dimple, gentle averting of the eyes and then glancing back, tucking his chin under and then peering at you through the tops of his eyes with a shy smile...killer. The ladies were puddy in his hands. Everyone was so generous, bringing gifts to Isaac. He of course received TONS of LSU paraphenalia. I can take a hint.

We spent lots of extra time with family. Isaac was fortunate to meet both sets of great-grandparents, and, he finally met Auntie Em for the first time! Keith's Uncle Jimmy brought Gus, his gigantic docile Great Dane. He was so gentle with Isaac. Auntie Ains and Mia enjoyed taking care of Isaac while Keith and I went to visit friends. Most mornings were spent outside on the back porch with coffee and conversation. Our last night we ordered 5 pounds of boiled crawfish, gumbo, and shrimp etouffee. DELISH! Isaac will love it all...someday. For now, I think he was a little leery of the crawfish (s'okay sweetie, mommy was hesistant at first too...and now I love 'em!)

all the ladies in the family

Tutu and Big Jack (Keith's mom's parents)

four generations of DeSonier men; Mere and Judge (Keith's dad's parents)

Isaac...Gus. Gus...this is Isaac. Nice to meet you!

Mia and Auntie Ains on duty

Mmmmmmm...crawfish!

All in all, a great time was had by all. We can't wait to return.

nothing "demi" about it

Winter Storm Demi blew through Sunday and Monday and I want to know, who named it Demi? That was a major snow storm that merited a much more powerful name like...Butch. We mostly stayed indoors. However, like true Texans, we had to go out for a bit to stomp around and get some cutie pics of Isaac. His reaction was really cute. At first, he was wide eyed and looking around in wonder, until snowflakes started landing on his eyelids and eyelashes. He wasn't sure how to handle that, so he just closed his eyes. He was adorable. Next year, he'll be able to walk around and discover the touch and feel of snow...like a big boy. I can't imagine.

As you can see, my mom and dad came to visit over the weekend. Their flight was canceled on Monday due to the storm, but they made it out safely on a later flight. They had a great time enjoying Isaac. We went shopping and put Grandad in charge of babysitting Isaac. He got lucky, because Isaac slept for 4 hours straight! He never naps that long during the day. Even now...I came to Panera hoping he would fall asleep in the car so I can get some stuff done on the computer. Nope. He's sitting in my lap as I type (he says hello).

This weekend is the start of Keith's Spring Break, so we are headed to Louisiana for some family time with the DeSoniers. Dale is hosting a "Sip and See" for Isaac. He is going to be smothered in good southern women love. I'll post pics next time. I can't wait for the warmer temperatures. Short sleeves and flip flops, here I come!
